Practice Makes Perfect? 🤔

Who hasn’t heard the phrase “practice makes perfect”?! 👀 

One of the most common expressions thrown around, it has been echoed in classrooms, sports fields, rehearsal halls, and boardrooms for generations. Who gets to define what “perfect” is though? We can become masters and experts in any number of areas and ways…but is anyone or anything ever really, perfect?

Dare I say…NOPE! 🙅 

“Perfect” is a moving target - and I liken it to the concepts of “beauty” and “art”, whose definitions are greatly influenced by the eye of the beholder. Don’t you think?

Perfection often implies a flawless end state - an arrival point where there’s nothing left to improve. But in real life, whether you're learning to play an instrument, launching a business, or working on your mental health, there is no final destination. There's always more to learn, refine, or evolve.

The pursuit of perfection can paralyze us! We hesitate to start because we're afraid to be imperfect. We delay finishing because it's not quite “there” yet. We compare ourselves to people miles ahead on their journey and forget that they, too, had a beginning - usually a messy one…and probably have plenty of messy stories in between and ongoing.

Who’s guilty of getting caught up in these perfectionism traps?? 🙋‍♀️🙃 (me! lol)

Yup, have to admit, tis an ongoing struggle for this loca. I am in hardcore “figuring it out” mode. Hesitated on getting this newsletter going because my website is not updated yet. Doubted myself because I don’t have super pretty packaged up programming. Stalled on upping my YouTube game. Sometimes I feel overwhelmed 🤯 thinking of all the ways my brand, business, and content creation game can improve…

& it all kept me from taking action…

& I know there are a lot of folks out there with similar stories and sentiments. 😮‍💨 

This is why I now choose PRACTICE MAKES PROGRESS 👏🫶 

Progress is honest. It acknowledges the bumps, the breakthroughs, and the steady climb upward. Progress allows space for mistakes and views them as teachers, not failures. Each time you show up, try again, and stay open to growth, you're moving forward. That’s what matters.

We don’t have to have it all figured out to take action!!

When we focus on progress, we celebrate effort over outcome. We gain confidence from consistency. We become resilient - not because we’ve mastered everything, but because we’re committed to showing up, even when it’s hard.

Perfection is static. Progress is alive.

Forget trying to chase something as arbitrary as perfection. There are more aligned moments, situations, people, and opportunities…but stop waiting for the PERFECT time, the PERFECT person, the PERFECT version of yourself! 

As we all continue on our journeys, when you have moments of self-doubt, of feeling in a rut, of comparing yourself to what others are doing or have done, STOP, take a breath, and remind yourself your progress will look different from someone else’s, but that doesn’t lessen what you are learning and achieving, poco a poco (little by little).

Take a look in that mirror🪞& give yourself some grace, and plenty of love 🥰.

The cha-cha of life will have us taking steps forwards and backwards and twirling into unexpected scenarios always 💃🕺…so keep dancing divine beings…poco a poco (little by little) you will see how much PROGRESS you really are making. 👏 

Trust I am taking my own advice too! lol 😘
